MY LAZY WRITER'S GUIDE

Cute smile emoticon icons vectors set 05

I love to write, but I also find it so hard to write. Why is that? I mean, how possible is it that you find hard to do what you love to do, especially when it comes easy? I don’t know! But what I do know from personal experience, is how to navigate that period of laziness or lack of zeal guiltless and with ease. So here are my four nuggets:

1.     Jot your thoughts anyhow– Yes, the mind is the creative ground of every writer. We think it before we write it, and between the thinking and the writing is where some of us do have the challenge. But I have noticed that when I am able to jot my thoughts on a subject in mind, it is easier to come back and organize my jotted thoughts. So write down those thoughts as points, and you’ll find yourself coming back to them for the proper thing.

2.     Take your phone everywhere (Including the toilet – Yes!) – Having a pen and paper handy when your mind gets creative, is not always a reality.  And if you have to lazily jot down your thoughts, there is no better way to do it except with your phone. Phones are not just necessary assistants; they are fun things as well. I mean, everywhere you go, someone has their phone holstered to their body or bag, have their eyes glued to it, searching for news or gossip, or just something to keep them busy. Almost everyone is phone smart.  Most importantly, a lot of these phones have apps that you can easily jot stuff down, and they stay there safely, except you lose the phone. But if you have one of those google accounts on your phone, your memos can be safely restored from the server whenever you replace your phone. So my advise, go around with your phones as often as you can. I take my phone to the toilet, because that is one time and place that I am indeed in solitude, and I believe it is the same with everyone. I mean, who shares toilet time? So when you are in that place all alone and those thoughts come, get out your smartie and jot your thoughts.

3.     You do not have to write all the time – Writing in my opinion is an enjoyable art and not a task. Just as you do not have to go on holidays all the time, you do not have to write all the time. If you are one of those blessed with tons of ideas that pops up on your mind every second, good for you. If you are like me that it takes the journey of a lifetime to write something good, blessed be God. Writing has no statute of limitation. Write when you feel like it or when something drops in your mind. If there are no ideas, don’t sweat it. Do something else with your time. Would you prefer to write so many nonsense every month, or one blockbuster a year? Remember you write for your enjoyment, and your readers’.

4.     Do not write to impress – every time you think of what people would say about whatever you decide to write, the natural thing would be caution, and then discouragement would set in, then the joy of writing would die. No one likes to be judged, so don’t put yourself in that difficult position. Write to express yourself and not to impress anyone, and hey, there are no rules written with blood or in the court of law. No one has ever been arrested for not writing well. Believe it or not, regardless of how much effort you put in your writing, you will be judged, hated and loved by different groups of people. So make it your world and attract your kind (and there is nothing wrong your kind however), and you could probably win over those who are different from you. No matter what, you are sure to reach one person, and it takes just one person to reach the rest of the world.

So that’s it, my four nuggets for writing with ease, laziness allowed. And I do hope someone out there is encouraged and would set out to write lazily anyhow. Enjoy your writing!
