If you've been waiting on the Lord for something,
whatever it may be, you will get to the point when frustration kicks in because
nothing, absolutely nothing seem to be happening in that light. But deep within
your heart, you know that the Lord is faithful, true and able. So what do you
do? I am going to tell what I do as a personal experience, which has helped me
at many times. It may work for some folks, but not others. There’s no harm
trying.
Well, there are two sides of us, the physical and the
spiritual, and they both function differently. The physical side of us is the
most feeble and unreliable. But it is still a part of us, and must not be
neglected. It is this physical part of us that stores the frustration before
feeding it to the spiritual side of us. You do not get frustrated because you
have lost faith. No, your flesh is simply being fleshy. But you do not want it
to linger for long, as it will be damaging. And by the way, frustration is a
natural part of the human emotions like hunger, anger, happiness, enthusiasm
etc. But they are all fed by different situations. So it's normal. Well then,
first thing to do when frustration kicks in is to "stop waiting" and
cry, if you feel like it. I cry a lot, so it is one of the first things I do,
and it helps a lot. In fact, crying is the safest and an effective way of
responding to a feeling of pain. You are letting out steam by doing so, because
that is what frustration and its like is, t it's bad steam. But if you are not
like me, then look for someone you really trust to talk to about your
frustration. They don't necessarily have to say anything to you. A perfect
listening ears with a corresponding facial expression is probably all you need.
If you get more, that's fine. Ask questions, without necessarily expecting an
answer, get angry (but do not sin). You just need to get that feeling of
frustration out of you quickly. You can't cry for too long, and you can't get
angry for too long. Your physical body has a way of reaching its peak. When
that happens, then it is time to face your spirit man.
Start with a worship song that expresses how you
really feel about God. If you do that from deep within your heart with love,
you will find that the attention will gradually shift from you and your wants
to God. At that point, your spirit will begin to experience a level of comfort
and peace, which the Holy Spirit can bring, and you will therefore begin to
desire more of His presence. When you are rested in the presence of God (and
you will know when you are), your desire will be to have more grace to abide in
Him. When this happens, get your bible and read the scripture that addresses
the promise(s) of God you are waiting for. You will be reassured of God's
faithfulness, and your hope will be lifted to wait again.
But guess what? You never really stopped waiting, or
being the faithful child of God you are. It is technically what I call a break
in transmission. It's a period of admitting to the human that you are, so you
can rely on the strength of God. There are no super humans in Christ. Our
superiority lies within our spirit, which the Holy Spirit quickens. Remember
Elijah’s successful feat against the prophets of Baal, and how he caved in to
fear from Jezebel's threat? Elijah was afraid. In fear, he ran away from his
problems to an isolated place. He did not want to talk or be with anybody. He
was afraid, angry and frustrated. He was everything but super and he didn’t
hide it. God met him in his hideout, and asked what the problem was like He
didn’t already know. Without mincing words, Elijah poured out his frustration
to God. Talking to God helped him before anything else. So, like I said,
talking is good, very good. We all know how the story ended. His fear was taken
care of, and he was relieved of the awesome duty.
Be assured, you will not wait forever. If you've
never believed anything, please believe this truth. You will not wait forever.
Nobody waits forever, even if they want to. Something will give. For us in
Christ, God will show up with what you asked, or something better. So in all
your waiting, wait well!
